The More You Know, The Less You Owe

Stop Patienting. Start Consuming.

The power to save is in your hands.

We are not just patients. We’re consumers of medical products and services, and most of us overpay for the health care we need.

As Americans, we tend to do our research and go to great lengths to save an extra buck on most of the products we buy. While shopping for electronics, we’ll read Consumer Reports and countless online reviews, scour newspaper ads and catalogs – anything to prevent paying full price.  But, when it comes to health care services, many of us are not so savvy.

Most of us probably think, “My doctor prescribed this particular medication and knows about other alternatives and would save me money if he could,” or, “My doctor sent me to get this particular MRI because they have the best imaging.” But, the reality is, some doctors may not be aware of the cost of care or available alternatives.

A few simple questions are all you need to ask, just to be sure. Next time you’re at the doctor’s office and he or she makes a recommendation, remember to ask:

  • What are the risks of this test?
  • Are there alternatives to this medication?
  • What lifestyle changes could I make that would have the same effect as this drug?

You’ve likely overpaid for health care services in the past, but we can help you make sure you never do it again. Use these resources to get yourself up to speed on how to save on your next visit:
